I'd go as far as saying even YouTube and Google, despite not specializing in MUGEN at all, are better bets than MUGEN Archive.

If you want characters, go literally anywhere else.

Plus they use redirection links and IP/URL verification systems just to make money out of normally free content, making it literally illegal as, under normal circumstances, MUGEN content should be free. This is administration abuse and should be enough ground for laying off the ENTIRE staff of that site. And you can't even appeal their decisions: if you try commenting on how they run the site or even just asking for a friend, you are BANNED ON THE SPOT. Snitches that went as far as earning people's trust, only to backstab them afterwards by posting their normally private works in MA. They'll go as low as having snitches in other communities and have often been the source of problems in many of the ones I went in. Their white knights steal content from anywhere they can find them, and uploads them to MA without asking the original creators at all in the first place, even when the character has a notice of no stealing, and the website just lets that fly under the excuse of "if it's for MUGEN it's free for everyone" (which they themselves don't even apply outside of their small niche of kids and other mentally-challenged people, since they ban both lurkers and people who disagree with them from even downloading anything, thus defeating the very purpose of an "Archive"). I know Discord servers ran by ten years olds that are (or were) ran better than this website is. It has quite the reputation and I'm fairly certain this is why.įor how gigantic an amount of content it has, the site is ran absolutely quite poorly. This is how you can use the Archives safely, without encountering its mentally ill owner. And finally, never use the site without some kind of Adblock, since Dizzy is constantly experimenting with ways to harvest user/visitor data and sell it for his own gain. Make a few posts on uploads if you want a 50 MB+ sized file, and never mention Dizzy's name at all, since he searches it obsessively every hour of every day. Avoid the site during the weekends, and avoid the forums completely unless you want your account to get banned by the one-person gestapo that is Dizzy.

When the account is approved, use it only to download characters, and only on the weekdays.

Sign up with that and a fake name with as little identifying info as possible. Make a burner email with Yahoo or preferably Gmail (Dizzy is a Google acolyte, of course). If you want a Mugen character, you'll probably have to deal with the Archive, so here's what you do. Unfortunately, he's the person who pays for the site (and is constantly pandering for other users to foot that bill in his place), plus the other site founders like That Man and Sol Badguy have all retired over the years leaving Dizzy in sole control. In short, Dizzy is the last person who should ever have power over anything. He has a really weird sense of humor (likened other site owners to Nazis during one holiday) and a sadistic side that likes to torment users of his own site in particular (forces a concept called 'Community Weekend' that is clearly just to mess with MA users, since it doesn't do and never has done what he says it's for). He's what psychs call 'malignant paranoid', being completely convinced the rest of the Mugen community is out to get him while ironically being completely out to get the rest of the Mugen community. Unfortunately, the owner Dizzy is toxic and deeply mentally ill. It's a 'warehouse', a place where all Mugen content is archived, and since a LOT of creator websites have gone down over the years, the concept is not even just good but is downright necessary. The idea for the Mugen Archive is a great one.
